Detroit Lions wide receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown registered four catches for 54 yards on Sunday against the Pittsburgh Steelers. It was not enough to help lead Detroit to victory, though, as Aaron Rodgers and the Steelers secured a pivotal road win at Ford Field, 29-24.
The Lions dropped to 8-7 after the Week 16 loss, and their playoff hopes are now hanging by a thread. They will need to win their last two remaining games to give themselves a shot at a postseason berth, starting with Thursday’s rivalry showdown against the Minnesota Vikings.
Simply put, a loss for Detroit will put an end to its playoff chase this season.
St. Brown popped up on the injury report for the Lions on Monday in the team’s first practice session. The two-time All-Pro wideout was listed as a non-participant in Monday’s practice estimation due to a knee injury. Head coach Dan Campbell revealed that St. Brown’s knee issue surfaced when he came in that morning, and that no further information was available at that point.
It was another walk-through for the Lions on Tuesday, which meant that the injury report was an estimation again. Nevertheless, the good news is that St. Brown was upgraded to a limited participant for Tuesday’s session. While there is still no guarantee that the 26-year-old will suit up for the Christmas Day matchup against the Vikings, the fact that he was upgraded on Tuesday is a step in the right direction.
It is worth noting that Campbell said on Tuesday that St. Brown is still dealing with “a little irritation” in his knee. However, the Lions coach remained optimistic about the three-time Pro Bowler’s chances to play on Thursday.
The Lions will have one final practice on Wednesday, and St. Brown’s status in that one will have a significant impact on his status for the Vikings game.
Detroit will be on the road on Dec. 25, with kickoff from U.S. Bank Stadium in Minneapolis scheduled for 4:30 p.m. ET.
