Lions cornerback Terrion Arnold has reportedly been arrested as Florida police plan to charge him on multiple felony charges, according to Dave Birkett of the Detroit Free Press. Arnold has been accused of orchestrating “the kidnapping and robbery” of his personal driver and two of the driver’s associates. Per Birkett, Arnold “categorically denies any involvement in the matter” as he voluntarily surrendered today in response to the warrant for his arrest.

Back in February, Arnold’s attorney declared in a statement that he “had no involvement whatsoever’ in a kidnapping and robbery plot that had been carried out weeks before. Five people had been arrested in the case, and Arnold had been named an associate of the detainees but had not been charged himself. The statement claimed that Arnold “did not participate in, nor was he present for, any conduct related to the alleged offenses.”

Arnold had reported to police at the time that his AirBNB rental unit in Largo, FL, had been robbed of “designer bags, $100,000 in cash, an $80,000 necklace, and a cell phone issued to Arnold by the NFL.” Arnold reportedly accused his driver of arranging the original theft. At the time, prosecutors alleged that Arnold’s childhood best friend, Boakai Hilton Jr., had orchestrated the response as revenge. Hilton and five others were arrested under charges ranging from kidnapping to aggravated battery.

A female in the group, who is “characterized as Arnold’s girlfriend,” allegedly lured a friend of the driver and his friend to her Tampa apartment, where two of Arnold’s associates were hiding with guns. The driver’s associates were reportedly held “hostage in the bedroom” where they were allegedly beaten and interrogated. When the driver later entered the apartment, a member of the crew reportedly “stuck the barrel of his firearm into (the driver’s) mouth (and demanded) he return the stolen property.”

The state attorney’s office now accuses Arnold of being the orchestrator of the revenge plot, alleging that he instructed his friends to carry it out just hours after reporting the missing items to the Largo Police Department, which occurred two days after the alleged robbery. Per Birkett, “the charges for Arnold could carry a potential sentence of up to life in prison,” and the state attorney intend to file a pretrial motion arguing that Arnold “remains a danger to the community” and should be kept in jail until trial.

Hilton is being charged with three counts of felony robbery, three counts of felony kidnapping, and one felony count each of conspiracy to commit robbery and conspiracy to commit kidnapping as he faces life in prison. The three other male defendants face similar charges, while both female defendants accepted plea deals today in court. One faces a four-year prison sentence to be followed by six years of probation, and the other took an open plea, and her sentence will be determined after other proceedings have completed.

Arnold had originally “told police he was in San Francisco for the Super Bowl at the time of the incident,” but body cam footage shows that the interview the police conducted with Arnold when he reported the incident ended just hours before the revenge crime was carried out.

The Lions and head coach Dan Campbell initially backed Arnold after the event was reported, but the former first-round cornerback has been out of action since he was sidelined following shoulder surgery in early December. Things look bleak for the 23-year-old defensive back at the moment, but the future is still unclear as Arnold maintains his innocence. A statement from the team states that they are “aware of the legal situation” and that they “will not comment…out of respect of the ongoing legal process.”

If Arnold becomes available for the Lions’ 2026 campaign, cornerback becomes a major position of concern for the team. In his absence last year, the team relied on veteran Rock Ya-Sin to step up alongside D.J. Reed and Amik Robertson. The team added nickelback Roger McCreary in free agency and Keith Abney II in the fifth-round of the draft, but with Washington taking Robertson in free agency, the depth of the room is fairly thin.
