The Detroit Lions will face off against the Cincinnati Bengals on Sunday and will look to improve to 4-1 on the season for the third consecutive year. It'll be the first time the Lions play the Bengals in Cincinnati since 2017.

It'll be a homecoming game for Lions running back David Montgomery and his first game back in Cincinnati after over six seasons and 92 NFL games in the playoffs. This week, Montgomery appeared on the Up and Adams Show and talked with Kay Adams about what it will feel like to be back playing in his hometown.

"I think it's just going to be a rush of emotions," Montgomery said. "I have never played in Cincinnati since leaving Cincinnati, which will be cool. Playing against the team that, when I grew up, that was the team, was like my team. That was a hometown kid. A bunch of my family members are coming."

Montgomery's homecoming game in Cincinnati will be an emotional one

It'll be an emotional homecoming for Montgomery's family, as his sister will watch him play in person for the first time since being in a horrible car accident in February of 2024.

"I think this is really special for me because my sister gets to come to the game," Montgomery said. "Almost a year ago, maybe a year and a half, on Valentine's Day, my sister got in a really bad car accident. Now she's paralyzed from the neck down. She, obviously, can't move, but this will be the first game that my sister can actually see me play with her own eyes. So I'm super, super excited about that, and I'm just happy that she'll be able to be there."

Montgomery looks to take advantage of the Bengals poor rush defense

Montgomery, along with running back Jahmyr Gibbs, has been dominant so far this season for the Lions. The duo, known by Lions fans as "Sonic" and "Knuckles," have rushed for a combined 516 yards and seven touchdowns through four games.

Montgomery has a chance to put on a show in his homecoming game on Sunday, as the Bengals this season have allowed the seventh most rushing yards, averaging 135.8. The Bengals have also given up the 11th most yards per carry, allowing 4.5. The Lions will look to take advantage of the Bengals' poor rush defense on Sunday.
