The Detroit Lions found a franchise blindside protector for newly acquired quarterback Jared Goff with the seventh pick in the 2021 NFL Draft.
In what has to be considered a surprising move, the Lions selected former Oregon standout left tackle Penei Sewell. The consensus No. 1 tackle in the draft was seemingly falling down the draft board with the annual event nearing. That’s obviously no longer the case.

Sewell will now likely start at right tackle out of the gate with Taylor Decker manning Goff’s blindside. This shouldn’t give the struggling quarterback any more excuses to play substandard football after he fell out of favor with the Los Angeles Rams prior to the trade earlier this offseason.
