The Detroit Lions have been eliminated from playoff contention following their shocking loss to the Minnesota Vikings. It will be the first time since 2022 that the Lions will miss the playoffs.

The Lions offense really struggled to gain any momentum throughout the game. Coming into the game the Lions had just eight turnovers all season, yet committed six turnovers alone against the Vikings (two interceptions and four fumbles lost). The Lions defense did its best to keep the team in the game, limiting Minnesota quarterback Max Brosmer to 51 passing yards and forcing seven sacks.

The 2025 season was filled with high expectations for the Lions, yet it was anything but that. In 2024, the Lions achieved a 15-2 record and the first overall seed in the NFC playoffs, but their dreams would fall short with a Divisional Round loss to the Washington Commanders. The loss came with a price, with both offensive coordinator Ben Johnson and defensive coordinator Aaron Glenn leaving the Lions to pursue head coaching positions. With both major coordinators leaving in the offseason, the Lions were never able to fully recover for the 2025 season.

The Lions will now look ahead to 2026, where it will hopefully try to reclaim its dominance in the NFC.
