Detroit Lions fans are used to the misery that their beloved team brings.

They are only one of four NFL teams without a Super Bowl appearance and they haven’t won a playoff game since 1991.

Since that year, they’ve reached the postseason ten times but never made it past the Wild Card round.

Even the combination of quarterback Matthew Stafford and Hall of Fame wide receiver Calvin Johnson was not enough to give them a victory.

Worst yet, Stafford won a Super Bowl in the season after leaving Detroit.

Last season, the Lions regressed to a 3-13-1 record under head coach Dan Campbell.

He might have entertained football audiences with his witty responses but it doesn’t mask the fact that they are nowhere near being relevant.

What’s frustrating is that six of their losses were decided by eight points or less.

A few breaks going their way would have given them a more respectable finish.

Just like in previous years, Lions fans welcome another offseason hoping that their squad will finally get it together.

But it’s hard to see that happening especially when their quarterback is consuming a big part of their salary cap.

Goff Is Hanging By The Skin Of His Teeth

All could be forgiven if Jared Goff is leading the Lions to victory while having a $31 million cap hit.

Unfortunately, he has a lot of ground to make up for after the trade involving Stafford.

The Lions generated some good fortune towards the end of the 2021 season by winning three of their last six games.

However, fans hope that they can carry the momentum into 2022 and Goff will play a huge part in that transformation.

Therefore, the upcoming season is a make-or-break year for the Pro Bowl quarterback.

As the leader of the offense, he must generate a potent offense that can constantly win games.

Otherwise, the team might select a quarterback from a talented 2023 draft class.
