Lions have worked out top UFL kicker Andre Szmyt after loss of Michael Badgley
Vincent Carchietta-USA TODAY Sports

Life comes at you pretty fast doesn't it? On Friday it was announced that kicker Michael Badgley had suffered a season ending torn hamstring. The Lions did say they were going to work out kickers and we suggested that they work out St. Louis Battlehawks kicker Andre Szmyt because he was Jake Bates top competition in the UFL this Spring and won that competition.

Well, just a couple hours later a source told myself and A to Z Sports that Szmyt was one of the kickers that worked out for the Lions this week.

Szmyt had a big season for the Battlehawks in 2024. He went 20-22 with his two missed coming from the 40-49 region and the 50 plus. He did hit some big kicks though, including a 61-yarder.

Szmyt won the Groza Award at Syracuse and then was with the Bears for a short time last summer.

If the Lions do wind up signing him, he could be big time competition for Bates. We'll see how things go.
