The Detroit Lions are 3-1 and feeling great after a "Monday Night Football" beatdown of the Baltimore Ravens, followed by a 38-30 win over the Cleveland Browns on Sunday.
Not everything is peachy in the Motor City, though. Specifically, the Lions are dealing with two injuries in the secondary that will threaten to leave them exposed downfield.
The most notable is a hamstring injury to veteran cornerback D.J. Reed, who was hurt in Detroit's 34-10 win over the Browns.
Reed had to be carted off the field, but head coach Dan Campbell revealed on Monday that further examination of the injury suggests that the former Kansas State Wildcat shouldn't miss the rest of the season.
"He's gonna be down for a while, but the good news is this is not a season-ender," Campbell said, according to Eric Woodyard of ESPN. "We will get him back so that's the good news. He's a stud."
Reed isn't the only Lions cornerback who finds himself banged up.
Former 2024 first-round draft pick Terrion Arnold had to leave the game against the Browns with a shoulder injury. Though he is banged up, Campbell revealed that Arnold's injury should be a short-term thing.
That doesn't mean he'll play in Week 5 against the Cincinnati Bengals, and in fact, he sounds doubtful, but the Lions should get him back sooner rather than later.
"I don't think this is a huge thing, but the question is if he'll be ready for this week," Campbell said of Arnold. "That would be really the question and if it's not this week, he should be back by next week for sure."
The Lions agreed to a three-year, $48M contract with Reed this offseason and he's so far notched 16 tackles (14 solo), four passes defended and an interception. He picked off Joe Flacco in the second quarter of Detroit's win over Cleveland.
D.J. Reed with one of the picks of the year. Just amazing.
