The Detroit Lions have wasted no time reshaping their coaching staff for the 2025 season.
In just the first week after they were eliminated from the playoffs, the team lost their offensive coordinator, defensive coordinator, defensive line coach, wide receivers coach, and assistant quarterbacks coach.
Since suffering those losses, the Lions have found replacements incredibly quickly.
They hired former Bucs defensive line coach Kacy Rodgers to fill that opening. The team promoted linebackers coach Kelvin Sheppard to defensive coordinator.
Now they've found their new offensive coordinator and he is a familiar face for the organization.
According to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport, he and Tom Pelissero were told the Lions are hiring Denver Broncos pass game coordinator John Morton to become their next offensive coordinator.
This has now happened: John Morton is the new #Lions OC, per me and @TomPelissero. https://t.co/zbDr6jak3Q

This will be Morton's second stint with the Lions.
He spent the 2022 season as a senior offensive assistant for the team before he headed to the Broncos for the last two seasons.
Morton's return to the Lions will come with a lot of pressure for immediate success.
The team boasted the best offense in football during the 2024 NFL regular season, scoring 33.2 points per game.
Based on past comments from head coach Dan Campbell, Morton should be ready to take on that pressure.
After Morton's first stint with the team, Campbell said, “Johnny’s a superstar now and there’s a number of things that he did for us last year that are things that we’ve kept. And I really feel like that helped Tanner as well. And he took a lot of that, and he learned from that, and he’s grown from that and so, he’s in a good spot. He’s an asset for us.”
He'll have a much more talented offense to work with than he did while with the Broncos and the Lions will be hoping he can turn that into another season as the league's best offense.
