Lions’ Jared Goff Fires Off Massive Shot At Team’s Critics
Mike Dinovo-USA TODAY Sports

The Detroit Lions lost for the second time in three games this past weekend, falling to the Chicago Bears by a score of 28-13 in a surprising defeat.

Naturally, many are now beginning to question whether or not the Lions are serious contenders, and quarterback Jared Goff is annoyed by all of the chirping.

“You cherry pick stats, okay, we’re 2-2 in the last four,” Goff told Dan Miller of Fox 2 Detroit. “Cherry pick the last seven, cherry pick the last eight. You can do this all day.”

Goff had a rather rough outing against the Bears, going 20-for-35 with 161 yards, a touchdown and a couple of interceptions.

The Lions also lost to the Green Bay Packers in Week 12.

However, Detroit is still 9-4 and sits comfortably in first place in the NFC North. It probably won’t have much of a chance of securing the No. 1 seed in the conference at this point, as three teams are ahead of the Lions at 10-3. That being said, Detroit is not out of the running for home-field advantage just yet.

“It’s not always perfect, and we’re fortunate enough to sit here with nine wins,” added Goff. “A lot of teams would be happy to be at that place right now, but we’ve got to certainly do some things to play a little better ball the next few weeks.”

On the season overall, Jared Goff has thrown for 3,449 yards, 21 touchdowns and 10 interceptions while completing 66.9 percent of his passes and posting a passer rating of 94.8.

The 29-year-old is now in his third year with the Lions after coming over in a trade with the Los Angeles Rams back in March 2021. He made the Pro Bowl last season after finishing with 4,438 yards, 29 touchdowns and seven picks.

Detroit will take on the Denver Broncos next Saturday. It will then face the Minnesota Vikings twice, sandwiched around a meeting with the Dallas Cowboys on Dec. 30.

The Lions are aiming to make just their fourth trip to the playoffs since 2000.
