Lions owner: Last two losses were final straw for Matt Patricia, Bob Quinn

The Detroit Lions announced the firings of head coach Matt Patricia and general manager Bob Quinn on Saturday following a 41-25 blowout loss to the Houston Texans on Thanksgiving. The Lions now join a number of teams that will be looking for a new head coach and GM this offseason, including the Texans. 

Lions owner Sheila Ford Hamp revealed Saturday that the firings of Patricia and Quinn stemmed from back-to-back losses to the Texans and Carolina Panthers. 

“Honestly, yes," Hamp said when asked if the last two games were the last straw for the duo, according to Pro Football Talk. “Ten days ago we looked like we had a good chance to be playoff-bound, and both of those games were extremely disappointing. It just seemed like the path going forward wasn’t what we wanted it to be."

Detroit is 4-7 on the season, good enough for last place in the NFC North behind the Green Bay Packers, Chicago Bears and Minnesota Vikings. 

With Quinn and Patricia at the helm, the Lions went a measly 13-29-1. They were tasked with getting Detroit back into the playoffs, but failed miserably and managed to burn relationships along the way. 

Hamp also confirmed that offensive coordinator Darrell Bevell will take over as the team's interim head coach moving forward.
