Lions' Penei Sewell on move to RT: 'It is not that easy'

The Detroit Lions used the seventh pick of the 2021 NFL Draft on highly rated Oregon Ducks star offensive tackle Penei Sewell and, per reports, always envisioned moving him from the left side of the line to right tackle.

Sewell got off to somewhat of a slow start and missed rookie minicamp due to testing positive for COVID-19, and he admitted when speaking with reporters Thursday the transition has proved to be difficult during organized team activities.

"It is not that easy," he said of making the switch, per Dave Birkett of the Detroit Free Press. "Man, it’s a whole different feel. Again, it’s like, let’s say I’m right-handed so I’ve been writing right-handed my whole life, and then one day you’re just asked to write your full name left-handed at full speed, the same speed that you write with your right hand. So yeah, it's a little bit of an adjustment."

Lions coach Dan Campbell added that Sewell understandably "looks like a rookie" at this stage of the process but also said of the first-year pro: "Even in three days, you see him improving already. That’s all you can ask for right now. It’s good to have him here and to be with those guys, it’s exactly what you want."
