Dave Birkett of the Detroit Free Press reported on Tuesday that the Detroit Lions are placing cornerback Justin Coleman on injured reserve due to a hamstring problem.
Coleman suffered the setback during Sunday's 27-23 loss to the Chicago Bears.
Per an agreement between the NFL and NFL Players Association for the season held amid the coronavirus pandemic, the 27-year-old defensive back will miss at least the next three games on IR. The earliest he can return is for Detroit's Week 6 showdown with the Jacksonville Jaguars. Detroit is off in Week 5.
Fellow Lions cornerbacks Jeff Okudah and Desmond Trufant are also battling hamstring injuries early into the campaign.
Coleman joined the Lions on a four-year contract that could be worth up to $36 million in March 2019. He tallied 54 total tackles and an interception in his first season with Detroit, and he notched a single pass defended against Chicago before he was sidelined.
ESPN's Michael Rothstein added the Lions may look to sign a cornerback before this coming Sunday's game against the Green Bay Packers.
