Lions QB Jared Goff (oblique) limited Monday ahead of Bears game

As of the beginning of the midweek, it appears the Thanksgiving afternoon matchup between the 0-9-1 Detroit Lions and 3-7 Chicago Bears will be a battle of backup quarterbacks.

Per Josh Alper of Pro Football Talk, Detroit starter Jared Goff was listed as limited and would not have fully participated if the Lions had a full practice Monday due to the strained oblique that kept him out of this past Sunday's 13-10 loss at the Cleveland Browns.

Detroit held only a walkthrough Monday because of the short turnaround between games.

The news isn't surprising, as it always seemed unlikely Goff would be ready to go less than a full week after he was ruled out for the Cleveland contest. Backup Tim Boyle made his first career start in wet, windy, and cold conditions on the shoreline of Lake Erie and completed 15-of-23 passes for 77 yards with no touchdowns and two interceptions in the defeat. Nevertheless, the Lions have little to lose, minus another game, in giving Boyle a second consecutive opportunity to guide them to their first victory of the campaign.

Chicago, meanwhile, is on track to start veteran signal-caller Andy Dalton in Detroit, as rookie Justin Fields is dealing with a rib injury he picked up in Sunday's 16-13 loss to the Baltimore Ravens.
