Lions QB Jared Goff on OC Anthony Lynn: 'We have a great relationship'

Jason La Canfora of CBS Sports reported over the weekend that Detroit Lions head coach Dan Campbell had assumed "the bulk of play-calling duties from offensive coordinator Anthony Lynn" a couple of weeks ago during the bye. He reportedly did so, in part, because sources said "Lynn had a very difficult time connecting with starting quarterback Jared Goff" and that the two "never really clicked" as the Lions fell to 0-9-1 ahead of the Thanksgiving afternoon home game versus the 3-7 Chicago Bears.

Goff is on track to start Thursday after he missed this past Sunday's 13-10 loss at the Cleveland Browns with an oblique injury, and he spoke with reporters Tuesday about the CBS Sports story.

"I was just told about that," Goff explained, per Dave Birkett of the Detroit Free Press. "I don’t know where that came from. We have a great relationship. Me and him talk daily. I don’t know where that came from."

Meanwhile, Campbell remarked the connection between Lynn and Goff is "fine."

Pleasant words aside, the harsh truth is the Lions failed to notch a single win over their first 10 games of the season, and Goff is 27th in the league among eligible quarterbacks with an 84.0 passer rating and 32nd with a woeful 26.8 total QBR. It's possible neither Lynn nor Goff, let alone Campbell, will be associated with the franchise by the time the new NFL year opens in March.
