The Detroit Lions are about to make another hire for their newly revamped staff. This time they're going with Texas running backs coach Tashard Choice. He is expected to take on the running backs coach role for the Lions.

Choice played six seasons in the NFL for the Cowboys, Commanders, Bills, and Colts. In 2016 he became a coaching intern for the Dallas Cowboys.

From there he was assistant at North Texas before heading to Georgia Tech to take on their running backs coach role. In 2022 he took the Texas job and worked with Bijan Robinson and helped home become the eighth pick in the 2023 NFL Draft.

Choice also worked with Lions running back Jahmyr Gibbs when Gibbs was at Georgia Tech. The two worked very well together before Choce went to Texas and Gibbs transferred to Alabama.

There's no word yet on what this could mean for Scottie Montgomery, but the expectation is that he will return as the Lions' assistant head coach. He could still be a big part of what the Lions do in the run game.

Update: Montgomery will remain as assistant head coach and will take on wide receivers as well.

As far as Texas players that are coming out in the draft this year that he might be able to recommend for Detroit, keep an eye on receiver Matthew Golden, quarterback Quinn Ewers, tight end Gunnar Helm, and offensive linemen Hayden Connor and Jake Majors.
