The Detroit Lions, who were once one of the most miserable franchises in the NFL, have experienced a renaissance in the last three years.
They are now consistently among the best teams in the league, but defensive superiority is the one thing that evades them.
They were knocked out in their first playoff game last year, largely because they couldn’t cover a traffic cone. The defensive side of the ball was decimated by injuries, but sadly they still haven’t been able to catch a break.
Lions head coach Dan Campbell told reporters during a media session earlier this week that cornerback Terrion Arnold would be out for “a long time.”
While they got better news than expected when testing his shoulder, Arnold will still be out for this week’s game against the Kansas City Chiefs.
To combat the loss, the Lions signed cornerback Arthur Maulet to the practice squad.

Signed OL Dan Skipper to the Active Roster from the Practice Squad.
Placed CB Khalil Dorsey on Reserve/Injured.
Signed CB Arthur Maulet to the Practice Squad.
The ninth-year defensive back has never found a long-term home in the NFL, but he’s obviously reached some level of success to have carved out this long of a career.
He last played for the Baltimore Ravens last season, and with Detroit’s struggles in the secondary, there may be a chance for him to remain on the team for the rest of the year.
There may not be a starting role available for Maulet, but if he plays well, then he could serve as a backup whenever Arnold returns to play.
After a humiliating loss to the Green Bay Packers in the first game of the season, the Lions are now on a four-game win streak and are looking to extend it against a struggling Chiefs team.
The task will be more difficult with Arnold out of the lineup, but Detroit is more than capable with a veteran presence like Maulet on the back end.
