Lions To Re-Sign TE Tyler Conklin

Conklin is re-signing with Detroit, CBS Sports’ Matt Zenitz reports. He adds the team’s plan was to immediately bring the 31-year-old back following cutdowns. Several veterans have been temporarily let go with an arrangement in place to return after roster gymnastics take place in short order. This is another example.

Conklin began his career in the NFC North, spending his first four seasons with the Vikings. He became a starter during his final Minnesota campaign, something which continued during his three-year tenure as a member of the Jets. Conklin recorded at least 51 catches each year from 2021-24.

Things played out much differently for the 31-year-old last season. Conklin was a depth contributor with the Chargers, and he managed just seven scoreless catches while handling a limited workload. It will be interesting to see how the Chesterfield native and Central Michigan product fares with his hometown team in 2026.

With Conklin back in the fold, he will once again represent a depth option behind Sam LaPorta and Brock Wright at the tight end position. His original Detroit deal was a one-year pact worth $1.3MM (featuring no guaranteed money). A similar accord will no doubt be in place now.
