Lions trade proposal for Dolphins edge rusher Bradley Chubb, cost Detroit would take on and what they have to give up
Sam Navarro-USA TODAY Sports

The NFL trade deadline is right around the corner on Nov. 4. We know that the Detroit Lions are already making calls looking for an edge rusher.

With that in mind, we will look at each edge rusher that could be available for trade, and we’ll put together a proposal and go over what the cost of each deal could be and what the Lions could get from each player. So far, we’ve covered Titans edge rusher Arden Key and Dolphins edge rusher Jaelan Phillips.

Lions trade proposal for Dolphins edge rusher Bradley Chubb

I don't have a lot of evidence to speak on this. Still, it seems like every year, right before the deadline, the team that is supposed to be the really bad team, who everyone expects to unload players, somehow has a weird dominant win that almost tricks them into thinking everything is okay and they don't move anyone. That happened to the Dolphins on Sunday with their 34-10 win over the Falcons.

They shouldn't allow that to trick them. This team should still be looking towards the future. Part of that comes with ridding themselves of some of their bigger contracts. That's where Chubb comes into play. Right now, the former fifth overall pick has kind of a large deal. He has a cap hit of over $30 million in 2026 and 2027.

For that reason alone, it's incredibly hard to see the Lions doing this deal, and you can almost bet your bottom dollar that they won't. While they've been pretty smart about how they're doing their bigger extensions lately by keeping cap hits low in the first few years, they're not doing that, so they can get Bradley Chubb's massive cap hits in here to mess that up.

On top of it all, Chubb is likely to cost the most out of anyone on the market right now when it comes to trade value because the former Pro Bowler is going to be viewed that way. It wouldn't be anything super high, but I doubt the Lions want to give this up for that contract.

Lions get: Bradley Chubb
Dolphins get: 2026 4th-round pick

While it's possible to get Chubb in the building and restructure his deal and all that jazz, it's not worth it for the Lions to make this move. In my opinion, they should be all in on the guy opposite him, Jaelan Phillips. He's a better player and cheaper all around.
