For years NFL Network host Scott Hanson has been the face of the popular NFL RedZone channel. But as the product itself changes in ways fans don’t like, Hanson himself may be gearing up for a change of his own.

In a recent interview with OutKick, Hanson said that he’s midway through his four-year contract at NFL Network and he isn’t “married” to the idea of being at the network forever. He admitted that he could see himself going somewhere else so long as the next show he does lets him “serve the audience as best as anyone in a host role can possibly serve an audience.”

“To be fully transparent I’m in the middle of a four-year contract right now. This is season two of a four-year contact to host NFL RedZone,” Hanson said. “I love my job. I give everything I’ve got to RedZone. I hope I’ve been good for the NFL. The NFL has been good for me, but I’m not married to it. Could I go somewhere else? Sure, but we’ll talk about that when it’s time to talk about that. And if I were to go somewhere else, I would want that show or that endeavor to thrive in a way that it hasn’t ever thrived before and to serve the audience as best as anyone in a host role can possibly serve an audience.”

Hanson & RedZone

Hanson joined NFL Network in 2006 as a national reporter covering all 32 NFL teams. He transitioned to studio hosting in 2008 and became one of the network’s most recognizable personalities.

Beyond his regular studio work, Hanson has hosted NFL Network’s coverage of major events, including the Super Bowl, NFL Draft, NFL Scouting Combine and free agency. His energetic delivery, extensive preparation and ability to communicate breaking developments have helped establish him as a prominent voice in NFL broadcasting.

In 2009, Hanson became the host of NFL RedZone, a role he has held since the channel debuted. In the role he guides viewers through seven hours of live Sunday afternoon coverage, switching between games to showcase scoring opportunities, key plays and every touchdown. The program’s rapid-fire format, including its famous “Octobox” showing multiple games simultaneously, has made Hanson synonymous with the RedZone experience.

He also hosted NBC’s Gold Zone coverage during the 2024 Summer Olympics, applying a similar whip-around approach to Olympic competition.
