Denver Broncos legend John Elway was involved in an accident this past weekend that ultimately led to the death of former NFL agent Jeff Sperbeck. He was 62 years old.

Elway and Sperbeck were in La Quinta, California this past weekend when the latter fell from the back of the cart and struck his head on asphalt. He was transported to a local hospital for immediate treatment.

TMZ previously reported that Elway was driving the golf cart when Sperbeck fell off and hit his head. Unfortunately for the former NFL agent, he was placed on on life support due to the injuries he suffered this past weekend.

It was then reported by TMZ that Sperbeck passed away on Wednesday morning.

"He was rushed to a nearby hospital where all doctors could do was keep him on life support while they arranged to harvest his organs for donation," TMZ's report stated. "Police initially didn't respond to the scene -- a majority of law enforcement were working the massive music festival nearby -- but have since launched an investigation into the incident.."

There's currently no indication that Elway was driving negligently when this fatal incident occurred.

Elway and Sperbeck had a great working relationship that lasted well beyond their time in the NFL. In 2013, they launched 7Cellars winery together.

"In 1990 Sperbeck became the manager of John Elway’s marketing and business activities and has been involved in a multitude of Elway’s and other athletes’ businesses, as an advisor, partner and, or investor," Sperbeck's 7Cellars bio states. "It was the success of Elway’s restaurants that led he and John to the idea and conception of 7Cellars, as they saw a need for quality wine that was as top tier as the Elway’s brand."

Our thoughts and prayers are with the Sperbeck family.
