When the New York Giants inked quarterback Russell Wilson to a one-year deal, they didn’t just sign a starting quarterback. They elevated the floor of their roster, made the supporting cast more welcoming for a hypothetical rookie quarterback, and added a leader to the locker room.
Wilson made it clear he intends to start in East Rutherford and take on all that comes with it, leading a group of men, mentoring a neophyte, and handling the pressure of the sport’s biggest market with everyone’s job on the line.
As always, Wilson is confident. But he isn’t about to leave anything up to chance.
Wilson recently worked out with his new Giants teammates at Georgia Tech and took to Instagram to share the fun.
In the photo he posted, he’s pictured with receivers Wan’Dale Robinson and Darius Slayton, along with tight end Theo Johnson.

“Good few days with the boyzzz,” he captioned his story.
Wilson, with his unmatched enthusiasm, is clearly ready to get to work. He shared that excitement in his introductory press conference.
“We haven't gotten into those details yet. Really just making sure that everything works out and me getting here first, and now we can get to work in a couple weeks, few weeks from now,” Wilson said. “We're excited about that. I know just being with the guys it's going to be a lot of fun. A lot of us want to get throwing already. I've already talked to Malik a little bit about that and Theo and some of the receivers, Darius, Wan'Dale, (Tyrone) Tracy. Just a lot guys want to get together and start working. I'm excited about doing that right away and start spinning the football around with those guys.”
Signed to a one-year, $10.5 million deal, Wilson has incentives that won’t count against New York’s cap but can provide a maximum value of $21 million. This is firmly Wilson’s job, and while a rookie may complicate that later in the year, the veteran quarterback won’t look to end his career on someone else’s terms.
Wilson was brought in to be a functioning starting quarterback, and that starts with winning games. He’ll hope his April work lends itself to September success.
“We'll get to work with these guys and have a lot of fun and really, really challenge every guy every day to be our best, most importantly starting with myself. Just wanting to be that for myself every day and for this team.”
