Los Angeles Chargers running back Najee Harris reportedly suffered an upper-body injury at a July Fourth event. According to Harris’ agent, Doug Hendrickson, the former Alabama Crimson Tide star tailback sustained an eye injury because of a fireworks explosion.
Fortunately for Harris, his injury isn’t serious, and he’s expected to heal up in time for the 2025 NFL season.
Via NFL insider Jordan Schultz:
“Najee Harris was present at a 4th of July event where a fireworks mishap resulted in injuries to several attendees. Najee sustained a superficial eye injury during the incident, but is fully expected to be ready for the upcoming NFL season.”
The 27-year-old Harris played his first four seasons in the NFL with the Pittsburgh Steelers before parting ways with them in the offseason, leading to his signing a one-year, $5.25 million contract with the Chargers in March.
Although he comes with considerable experience, Harris will have some competition in the backfield with Los Angeles taking North Carolina Tar Heels running back Omarion Hampton in the first round of the 2025 NFL draft.
In four seasons with the Steelers, Harris rushed for 4,312 yards and 28 touchdowns on 1,097 carries through 68 games.
Another man was not as fortunate as Harris, with the David Hernandez of the San Francisco Chronicle, reporting that a victim of the explosion lost fingers and was in a serious state, as of Sunday.
“The man who lit the firework remained at a hospital in critical condition as of Sunday afternoon, Lt. William Whitaker said, adding that the man lost several fingers and suffered other injuries to his face and chest. “
