Los Angeles Chargers Allegedly Will ‘Do Whatever It Takes’ To Land Specific Michigan Star On Day 2 Of NFL Draft
Kirby Lee-USA TODAY Sports

A new rumor making the rounds ahead of the NFL Draft on Thursday night is that the Los Angeles Chargers are hellbent on landing one of Jim Harbaugh’s favorite Michigan players on Day 2 of the event.

We are now just hours away from the start of the 2024 NFL Draft and the speculation around what the Chargers will do has not subsided one bit. Much of the Chargers draft discussion has been about what they will do with the fifth overall pick and if they may trade out of the spot to gain more draft assets.

However, on Wednesday a new tasty report from ESPN NFL insider Dan Graziano suggested Los Angeles could be targeting the player viewed as the best running back in this year’s class, and he just so happens to be a recent star from Jim Harbaugh’s previous employer the Michigan Wolverines football program.

“No running backs are expected to go in the first round, and there’s a great variety of opinions on which one will be the first back selected this year. I’ve spoken to scouts from multiple teams who think Michigan’s Blake Corum might be the best of the bunch and believe Jim Harbaugh’s Chargers will do what it takes to make sure he’s reunited with his college coach,” Graziano wrote.

The Los Angeles Chargers lost long-time star running back Austin Ekeler to the Washington Commanders in NFL free agency. Leaving a massive void for Harbaugh and the front office to fill in 2024. However, Corum is the type of player who has the upside and potential to make a huge impact immediately.

The four-year player was a dominant force for the Wolverines the last two seasons and was in the running to be a Heisman Trophy candidate in 2022 when he ran for over 1,400 yards and nearly averaged six yards per carry. While his numbers dipped a bit in 2023, he posted a career-high in touchdowns with 27.

  • Blake Corum stats (2023): 1,245 rushing yards, 4,8 yards per carry, 27 touchdowns

Although he is small, he is very explosive, a solid pass blocker, and has underrated hands. He is viewed as a top 55 talent on many draft boards and is ranked 52nd on PFF’s big draft board.
