Los Angeles Chargers have signed longtime backup quarterback Easton Stick to a new contract
Orlando Ramirez-USA TODAY Sports

In a year that marks a new era for the Los Angeles Chargers, the quarterback room is remaining the same.

ESPN's Adam Schefter reported that the Chargers have signed backup quarterback Easton Stick to a new contract.

Stick was drafted by Los Angeles in the fifth round of the 2019 NFL Draft. After having thrown just one pass in a regular season game during the first four years of his career, Stick finally saw some extended action in 2023 when starter Justin Herbert went down with a season-ending finger injury. Stick started four games, but unfortunately lost all of them.

In a Week 15 game against the Las Vegas Raiders Stick threw for three touchdowns and one interception, which were his totals for both categories on the season. Although it was a solid day for him statistically, the Chargers were blown out by a 63-21 final score.

Stick is limited as a passer but is an athletic player who can make plays with his legs, rushing for 144 yards and a touchdown on 27 carries last season. New Chargers offensive coordinator Greg Roman has a history of being successful with mobile QBs, so keeping Stick around makes sense. Stick and Herbert will be running their third new offensive system in the last five years.
