Los Angeles Chargers in Talks with Top Defensive Line Draft Prospect
Kirby Lee-USA TODAY Sports

It should almost go without saying that the Los Angeles Chargers will be adding a defensive lineman early on in the 2024 Draft. Jim Harbaugh has built his winning teams at the line of scrimmage first and the Chargers defensive line is a shambles. The only returning starter is Morgan Fox. They have already added Poona Ford in free agency, but more work needs to be done.

Los Angeles Chargers Draft: Jim Harbaugh Zags, Picks Top D-Lineman In 1st Round

One potential fit for the Chargers could be Braden Fiske. It was reported by The Draft Network that he will be meeting with the Los Angeles Chargers among other teams.

While his mock draft consensus has him going in early in the second round, his incredible NFL Combine performance has some vaulting him into the first round. His speed and agility drills all place him among the best athletes at his position. However, his weight and length leave some questioning if he is the right fit for the Harbaugh trenches ethos. Is Fiske a Fit For the Los Angeles Chargers Defensive Line?

In his only season at Florida State, Fiske compiled 43 tackles, nine for loss, and six sacks.

Ideally, Fiske would be available at 37 in the second round for the Chargers, or if they are able to trade back from five to the mid-20s or early 30s. That would be seen as a stretch by some draft experts. Dane Brugler has him just inside the top 100 prospects at 90, but Pro Football Focus rates him as the 39th-best prospect in the draft.

If they are eyeing Fiske as a Day 2 pick, this move signals a willingness to draft a wide receiver at five.
