While those who made the initial 53-man roster for the Los Angeles Chargers are gearing up for the week 1 contest against the Chiefs in São Paulo, Brazil, some players will have to wait longer before seeing action in the 2025 NFL season.
Here are the two players who have been placed on short-term IR, who can return to the team in week 5 of the regular season.
The 13-year veteran, and highest rated long snapper on Madden (81 Overall), lands on injured reserve for just the second time in his career.
The former Pro Bowler, who hasn’t missed a single game since 2018, suffered a sternum injury during the Chargers’ final preseason game, forcing TE Tucker Fisk to assume his duties in the contest.

An integral component of Ryan Ficken’s special teams unit, the Chargers brass will assuredly bring in a host of long snappers to fill in for Harris as he recovers from this injury.
The 4th-year cornerback hailing from Calgary, Canada, once again begins his season on the IR list after suffering an undisclosed leg injury in week 2 of the preseason.
A core four special teams player, Leonard is one of the best gunners on this team, meaning the unit loses yet another key member.
For Ficken’s unit to bounce back from what was a disappointing overall group last season, players filling in for that role have to step up to meet those expectations.
Given head coach Jim Harbaugh’s affinity for not disclosing player injuries, it’s unclear what the severity of it is, and at which point in the season Leonard will return. Once he gets back on the mend, he’ll have to once again prove his worth in a crowded CB room that currently has 7 players.
Hopefully, both Harris and Leonard can return to the lineup soon and bring back stability to an underrated special teams unit that has often been overlooked.
Second-year linebacker Junior Colson was placed on the long-term IR and will miss the entire 2025 season.
