Los Angeles Chargers promote former TCU star Max Duggan to active roster after Justin Herbert’s season-ending exit
Stan Szeto-USA TODAY Sports

The Los Angeles Chargers lost their franchise quarterback, Justin Herbert, for the remainder of the season due to a finger injury. The Chargers are having a difficult season, and it just got more difficult with Herbert’s injury.

They are 5-8 so far this season and might miss the playoffs. Herbert was one of the very few players playing well for the Chargers, but with him gone, they will have to look at backup QB Easton Stick to finish the season.

However, Herbert’s injury has also led the Chargers to sign Max Duggan to the active roster. He was waived earlier in August this year but was signed back to the roster after the injury to Herbert. He will back Stick for the Chargers’ game against the Las Vegas Raiders on Thursday. Duggan was the team’s seventh-round pick in the 2023 NFL Draft.

Duggan was a Heisman finalist last year and helped TCU win 12 of the 14 games he started in 2022. He threw for 3,968 yards, 32 touchdowns, and 8 interceptions in his final year at TCU and helped them win the title.

Now he will get his chance to showcase his talent on the biggest stage as he was activated to the Chargers’ 53-man roster, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

The Chargers lost their last game against the Denver Broncos. Herbert injured his hand during the game and was subsequently ruled out for the season. Stick and Duggan will hope to lead the Chargers to as many wins as possible to end the season on a good note.

Easton Stick is expected to replace Justin Herbert as the Los Angeles Chargers’ starter

The Los Angeles Chargers will start Easton Stick against the Las Vegas Raiders on Thursday after starting QB Justin Herbert went down with a finger injury against the Denver Broncos on Sunday. Herbert was ruled out for the season after suffering the injury, as he underwent surgery on Tuesday.

Ultimately, it’s football. Look, I understand North Dakota State is not the National Football League, but I’m used to winning. I only know one way. This is a production business, and I understand that. Stick said on Tuesday

The Chargers drafted Stick in the fifth round of the 2019 NFL Draft.

Stick will be backed up by Max Duggan, who was activated to the Chargers roster after Herbert’s injury. Duggan was drafted in this year’s draft and was with the team’s practice squad. He will get his chance to play in the NFL behind Stick to end the 2023 season.
