The NFL plans to release the full 2025 schedule for all 32 NFL teams on May 14 at 5 PM PT, but the opening game for the Los Angeles Chargers has been leaked.

According to Front Office Sports, the Chargers will have a home game to open the season, but unfortunately, that game will not be in their home confines of SoFi Stadium.

Instead, it appears that the Chargers will get to travel to São Paulo, Brazil, and the team they will face is their division rival Kansas City Chiefs.

Los Angeles Chargers To Open Season Against Kansas City Chiefs

Also, according to FOS, the NFL is closing in on an agreement to have YouTube carry the game, but it will not require a subscription to YouTube TV. Everyone with internet access will be able to watch the game via YouTube for free.

There were early reports that the Chargers would host a game abroad, but now it is confirmed that it will be the season opener, and the Chiefs will be their opponents.

Jim Harbaugh is currently 5-0 in season openers as an NFL head coach, a record he shares with former New England Patriots coach Raymond Berry. If Harbaugh and the Bolts are able to beat the Chiefs in Brazil, he will stand alone with the record.

Chiefs coach Andy Reid is 10-2 in season openers, and the Chargers have not beaten the Chiefs since September 26, 2021.

While it is a bummer that the Chargers will lose a home game in Los Angeles, it will be good for the franchise to grow their international footprint.
