Los Angeles Chargers Starting WR Ruled OUT for MNF – Report – Week 9
Kiyoshi Mio-USA TODAY Sports

Los Angeles Chargers starting wide receiver Joshua Palmer will not suit up on Monday against the New York Jets. Per Adam Schefter, the Chargers have ruled out the wideout ahead of their Week 9 tilt.

Palmer did not practice this week ahead of Monday Night Football. He injured his right knee last Sunday but finished the game.

Joshua Palmer: Consistent Presence in the LAC Offense

Joshua Palmer is in his third NFL season, all with the Los Angeles Chargers. The former third-round pick jumped into a starting role this season with fellow wide receiver Mike Williams suffering a torn ACL during the team’s third game. Palmer is having a solid season, catching 23 passes for 377 yards and a touchdown. However, he temporarily left last Sunday’s game against the Chicago Bears with a knee injury. He finished with three catches for 24 yards and played his lowest snap total since Week 4.

Palmer had a career year in 2022, catching 72 passes for 769 yards and three scores. He was also involved as a rookie, catching 33 passes for 352 yards and a career-best four touchdowns.

Los Angeles Chargers: Receiver Room Sans Mike Williams, Palmer

The Chargers, now down Mike Williams and Josh Palmer, will lean heavily on star wideout Keenan Allen. The five-time Pro-Bowler has 54 catches for 643 yards and four scores through seven games. He averages 91.9 receiving yards per game, pacing for a new career-high.

Los Angeles will also look for rookie Quentin Johnston to step up. The first-round pick still needs to carve out a consistent role, snagging just 12 passes and no touchdowns in seven games. The Chargers also roster Derius Davis and Simi Fehoko. Davis, a rookie from TCU, has seven catches. Meanwhile, Fehoko has just two targets on the season.
