Los Angeles Chargers told the world their NFL Draft plans with their recent roster decisions

Things are trending in a new direction for the Los Angeles Chargers for Jim Harbaugh’s first season with the team.

The Chargers have parted ways with both of their top wideouts in separate ways in the past couple of days. After the team opted to release Mike Williams and save cap space, a day later they traded Kennan Allen to the Bears to move off of his money.

With those moves, it became much clearer what the Chargers are going to do with their No. 5 overall selection in next month’s NFL Draft.

If Marvin Harrison Jr. is the top wideout in the NFL Draft, then Malik Nabers is a dark good consultation prize to the next wide receiver needy team. The Chargers are now that team and they might have been even before with the top end of the room aging.

In any other draft more often than not, Nabers is the top wideout off the board. Over the last two seasons, Nabers put up nearly 2,600 yards at LSU to go along with 17 touchdowns. Last draft the Chargers selected Quentin Johnston late in the first round and he had 431 yards and a pair of touchdowns.

Johnston and Joshua Palmer are the top two targets for Justin Herbert now and there is zero chance that will be the case following April. With the top free agents off the board and no money to spend on them, addressing the wide receiver position for years to come is right in front of the Chargers in the draft.

Herbert will be back healthy next season and year No. 1 under Harbaugh will be an adjustment but the Chargers should be better than 2023. I'm confident that Nabers will have a hand in them being better because he is now the obvious pick with the draft order going three quarterbacks and Harrison Jr. before the Chargers pick.
