Los Angeles Chargers UDFAs Steal Spotlight at Rookie Minicamp

The Los Angeles Chargers are getting their first look at the 2025 rookie class as rookie minicamp kicks off this weekend. While much of the attention naturally falls on high-profile additions like first-round pick Omarion Hampton, it’s the undrafted free agents who are making early waves.

Head coach Jim Harbaugh, entering his first NFL season since returning from Michigan, spoke glowingly about several unheralded newcomers after Friday’s practice session. Three names, in particular, stood out: running back Raheim Sanders, wide receiver Luke Grimm, and tight end Stevo Klotz.

“They’ve all shown great work ethic and football instincts,” Harbaugh said. “Guys like Sanders, Grimm, Klotz — they’re hungry. That’s what you want in a locker room.”

Sanders arrives with pedigree. The former Arkansas Razorback and South Carolina Gamecock enjoyed a breakout sophomore campaign in the SEC, rushing for over 1,000 yards and leading the conference in yards per carry (6.5).

Grimm, meanwhile, was a steady playmaker for the Kansas Jayhawks, tallying six touchdowns during the 2024 season and emerging as a go-to target in the red zone.

Then there’s Klotz — a converted linebacker from Iowa State who found his stride after switching to tight end. His toughness and versatility have already made an impression on Chargers staff.

While Hampton and other drafted rookies will be under the spotlight all weekend, the emergence of this undrafted trio gives Harbaugh added options and competition across the depth chart.

If Sanders can continue to impress, he could become a major piece of a revitalized backfield — and give the Chargers one of the more dynamic rushing attacks in the league.
