The Los Angeles Rams have tough decisions regarding players from last season's team.
NFL.com's Matt Okada detailed which players NFL teams should cut this offseason to save money, including Rams offensive guard Jonah Jackson.
Quarterback Matthew Stafford's cap figure is $49.5 million entering the 2025 season. However, Okada believes Jackson may be a top candidate to be released regardless of whether the team decides to keep Stafford.
Jackson suffered a shoulder injury in the 26-20 season-opening overtime loss to the Detroit Lions. He played the following game before being placed on IR in Week 3.
"...As a standard release, Jackson would eat up $11.3 million in dead money, saving just $3.3 million in 2025, but if he's designated as a post-June 1 cut, the team would net $9 million in savings," Okada said.
If Jackson is cut after June 1, the Rams would save $9 million instead of only saving $3.3 million otherwise. Jackson signed a three-year deal worth $51 million last March.
Jackson started his college career at Rutgers in 2016. He spent three seasons there before transferring to Ohio State in 2019.
Jackson was drafted in the third round of the 2020 NFL Draft by the Detroit Lions. He was named a Pro Bowler in his second season with the Lions.
He played for the organization from 2020-23 before joining the Rams.
The Rams finished the regular season at 10-7 after clinching the NFC West and making the playoffs. The Rams beat the Minnesota Vikings in the Wild Card 27-9 before having their season ended by the Philadelphia Eagles in the Divisional Round by a score of 28-22.
