Los Angeles Rams realize full offensive vision with new franchise star's elite connection with Matthew Stafford and put the league on notice

The Los Angeles Rams made waves in the offseason when they went out and signed wide receiver Davante Adams to kick off free agency. Los Angeles had been searching for that perimeter playmaker who could consistently generate separation and force defenses to shift coverage away from Puka Nacua, so Nacua could occupy a Swiss Army Knife role in the offense.

McVay sold Adams on the vision of his fit with the offense, and Adams chose the Rams over several other suitors in the offseason. However, Stafford missed time in the offseason, making their chemistry slower developing than it normally would have been. That showed in their Week 1 victory over the Texans, as Adams had just four catches in his Rams' debut.

That changed in Week 2 against the Tennessee Titans. McVay and Stafford finally caught a glimpse of what their offense could look like with Adams leading the way, and it's safe to say that they are excited beyond words with what this unit could accomplish this season.

Davante Adams Steals The Show and Proves He Was A Wise Investment

In the Rams 33-19 victory over the Titans, Adams proved just why he was such a valued commodity in the offseason. Adams caught six passes for 106 yards and a touchdown while leading the team in targets, racking up 12 throughout the day.

Adams eclipsed the 12,000 career yardage mark on the day, surpassing Michael Irvin in career yards, while also tying Antonio Brown, Calvin Johnson, and Brandon Marshall for the 11th-most 100-yard games in the NFL with his 46th. McVay admitted heading into the game that they wanted to get Adams more involved in the offense, and made it a heavy point of emphasis this week.

While he did draw a heavy workload, Adams' impact opened things up for the rest of the offense's playmakers. Nacua caught eight passes for 91 yards, while five other Rams' receivers combined for 101 yards and a touchdown on nine receptions.

Midway through the game, it felt like the Rams were forcing the ball to Adams too much and Tennessee had finally begun to adjust. Thus, the Rams simply shifted their focus back to their mismatches underneath, tossing another touchdown to tight end Davis Allen while the run game took off and grinded out the victory.

This was the vision the Rams had for the offense when they made such a big splash in the offseason. They needed teams to open up defensively for the rest of their offense to draw mismatches and draw defenders away from focusing completely on Nacua. When teams adjust to take away one or the other, the Rams have the flexibility and creativity to change course and feed the rest of the team.

It's early, but we saw a glimpse of what this offense could become, especially towards the end of the season when the Rams tend to catch fire. If they keep this up, Stafford could be on his way to a career season.
