It’s not often a rookie edge rusher earns this kind of respect—but Los Angeles Rams edge rusher Jared Verse isn’t your average rookie.
In a recent interview on The SiriusXM Blitz , five-time Pro Bowl tackle Terron Armstead listed Verse— unprompted—as the top reason he’s happy to be retired. “No. 1: He was a rookie from the Rams,” Armstead said. “That young boy Jared Verse? I’m cool. I’m good. I never got to see that man again. I’m OK with never seeing that young man again in my life.”

Armstead, who played 12 seasons with the Saints and Dolphins, made the comment with a laugh—but the underlying respect was clear. “Bull rush is different. Dog, it’s different,” he added. “You know that it’s coming, you brace yourself. He’s different. Jared Verse is different. He will be a Defensive Player of the Year one of these days. Mark my words.”
Verse made his presence known in a Week 10 clash against Miami, finishing with five pressures, a strip-sack, and three stops. According to Pro Football Focus, he earned an 89.7 grade—his highest of the year.
Despite finishing 2024 with just 4.5 sacks, the former No. 19 overall pick still took home Defensive Rookie of the Year honors. He also dominated in the postseason, notching two sacks and three tackles for loss in a tight loss to the Eagles.
While his raw sack total didn’t turn heads, his 33 quarterback pressures (tied for 16th in the NFL) and his bull-rush prowess made an impression on linemen around the league.
For Armstead to place Verse in the same class as Myles Garrett, Maxx Crosby, and Trey Hendrickson speaks volumes. Entering his second season, Verse could turn that Rookie of the Year award into something much bigger—and soon.
