The Los Angeles Rams have made it a great habit of finding outstanding Day Three and undrafted free agent value under general manager Les Snead, and head coach Sean McVay. Many have poked fun at the Rams scouting staff over the years due to the team’s run of trading away first round selections for proven veteran talent, but there is no questioning that the organization has continuously found underrated football players.
The Rams have continued to identy undervalued talent even after the 2025 NFL Draft class.
The safety position has been one great example of finding that value over the years. That includes John Johnson III, Jordan Fuller, and Quentin Lake, all of which were Day Three selections in their respective drafts. All of them played and produced above their draft slot.
One interesting undrafted free agent acquisition to keep a close eye on is former UConn standout Malik Dixon-Williams. The 6-0, 203-pound safety had an impressive pro day during the draft process, posting a vertical jump of 40.5 inches, and a 10’4” broad jump. That came after what was a very underrated player for the Huskies.
During the course of his UConn career, Dixon-Williams managed to collect 258 total tackles, seven interceptions, 12 pass breakups, and eight tackles for loss. The Florida native was asked to do a lot for the Huskies, and Dixon-Williams managed to make an impact in every capacity.
With Lake projected to mostly play in the nickel heading into the 2025 NFL season, the Rams are expected to start Kamren Kinchens and Kam Kirk on the back end at safety. Behind those two, the depth is much more questionable. Dixon-Williams will have an opportunity to compete, and potentially earn a roster spot this offseason.
From a pure talent perspective, there is a lot to like about Dixon-Williams. He is a bigger safety that has little issue getting in moves in the run game, which could help a ton on special teams as well. Dixon-Williams is also a talented enough of a mover to be more impactful in the run game if he trusts his eyes more.
