As the Los Angeles Rams turn the page following Cooper Kupp’s departure, third-year wide receiver Puka Nacua has stepped confidently into a new role — both as a playmaker and as a leader. Despite just two seasons in the NFL, Nacua has become a foundational piece of the offense, and his coaches are taking notice of his growth.
Rams offensive coordinator Mike LaFleur has been especially impressed with Nacua’s offseason development. “What I’ve seen from him is a guy that’s just continuing to work on his craft and get better,” LaFleur said. “He was better in Phase One this year than he was a year ago, and just like he was when we first drafted him.”
LaFleur noted subtle but important improvements in Nacua’s game — sharper route-running, cleaner breaks, and a growing confidence in his elite hands. “I joke with him — he almost swallows the football. He’s looking for the next move before he even finishes the catch,” LaFleur added.

Beyond his technical refinement, Nacua has embraced a new leadership dynamic. With Kupp gone and newcomer Davante Adams now the veteran voice in the room, Nacua finds himself in a mentorship role — even if he’s still adjusting. “It’s weird they’re asking me questions,” Nacua said with a laugh. “But it’s been good — a teaching moment for me, too.”
Adams has already made an impact, offering advice, drills, and a fresh perspective. Nacua, in turn, has leaned into the process, working to elevate both himself and his teammates ahead of a critical 2025 campaign.
The Rams will need Nacua at his best. And if this offseason is any indication, he’s ready for the challenge — physically, mentally, and emotionally.
