The Seahawks matched an offer sheet to retain Jake Bobo this offseason. The reigning Super Bowl champions had been prepared to run back their wide receiver group this year, after seeing Cooper Kupp‘s 2026 salary vest in February and re-signing Rashid Shaheed in March. Seattle then gave Jaxon Smith-Njigba a record-setting extension.
A former UDFA, Bobo signed a Jaguars RFA offer sheet — two years, $5.5MM — the Seahawks quickly matched. But it does not look like Bobo will be available to open the season alongside Smith-Njigba, Kupp and Shaheed. Seattle’s No. 4 wideout suffered what looks to be a serious knee injury at practice Friday, according to Mike Macdonald.
“Our heart goes out to Jake Bobo,” Macdonald said, via ESPN.com’s Brady Henderson. “It seems like it’s going to be a serious knee [injury]. We’re going to get it imaged, but early returns are [that] it looks like it’s a long-term injury. That’s unfortunate.”
While Bobo did well to secure some guaranteed money ($4.5MM) as a fourth-year backup, these “team fears”-type posts generally do not produce positive outcomes. No diagnosis has yet emerged, but the prospect of Bobo landing on season-ending IR appears in play based on Macdonald’s comment. Bobo was carted off the practice field during a joint workout with the Titans.
Operating as a backup receiver and special teams regular, Bobo turned 28 earlier this month. His offer sheet includes $1.5MM of his $2MM 2027 base salary guaranteed. That offers modest protection, and while it is still too early to deem Bobo’s fourth season over before it starts, Seattle’s deep receiver room has taken a hit.
The Seahawks are still well positioned here, as they return 2025 fifth-round pick Tory Horton from an injury that ended his rookie year midseason. Seattle also drafted Emmanuel Henderson Jr. in this year’s sixth round.
