Aside from being the star player on one of the NFL's most profitable franchises, Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes has done incredibly well for himself in various business ventures.
The three-time Super Bowl winner has pursued numerous investment opportunities in Kansas City-area sport organizations, such as part-ownership in MLB's Kansas City Royals, MLS' Sporting Kansas City and the Alpine F1 team.
Mahomes and his family recently received exciting news about another team they have stakes in, the NWSL's Kansas City Current.
This week, Forbes released a ranking of the NWSL's most valuable franchises, with the Current ranking second out of 14 overall. KC was valued at $275 million, just a fraction behind the top club Angel FC ($280 mil).
The Current ranked first overall in annual revenue, raking in about $36 million each year ($1 million more than Angel FC).
This Mahomes part-ownership investment was originally Brittany Mahomes' idea. Patrick's wife and high school sweetheart was a co-founder of the women's soccer club back in 2020, with Patrick following suit as a co-owner a few years later.
Brittany took to social media to celebrate the club's success by reposting graphics on her Instagram story that flaunt the team's value rank and revenue total.
Brittany has a natural love for the sport, being a former collegiate player at the University of Texas at Tyler - not far from the couple's hometown of Whitehouse, Texas.
The Mahomes family is often in attendance at the Current's home games alongside their three children, Sterling, Bronze and Golden.
With the Mahomes backing, the Current and NWSL as a whole are expected to continue this upward trajectory. The league is steadily improving with each franchise valuation at an impressive $134 million.
What's more impressive is the Current's meteoric rise since the club's inception. They only just started playing regular season games in 2021.
“I am thankful for the chance to join @brittanylynne as part of the @thekccurrent ownership team,” Mahomes tweeted when he first purchased ownership stake. “She and the Longs have done an incredible job building a world-class organization and I am excited to join another championship-caliber club as it continues to make history.”
It will be exciting to continue seeing the rise of women's sports through the NWSL in the near future, with Brittany and Patrick Mahomes - who is sitting on a 10-year, $450 million contract with the Chiefs - playing a large part in it.
