Mahomes plans to avenge Raiders loss: 'We'll be ready to go'

Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs had their worst game of the season against the Las Vegas Raiders, looking out of sorts in a 40-32 loss to their division rival. This Sunday, the 8-1 Chiefs will have a chance to even the score and Mahomes says the team will be prepared to avoid a sweep at the hands of the Raiders.

"Any time you lose to anyone, the next time you play them you want to win the football game,'' Mahomes said. "We'll be ready to go, I promise you that. ... We don't like losing to teams twice, so we'll have the right mindset.''

Mahomes threw his lone interception of the season against the Raiders and barely completed 50 percent of his passes in the losing effort. Fortunately, the 25-year-old has looked nearly perfect in every other game this year, placing himself at the forefront of the MVP race, an award that he already won in his first season as the Chiefs' starting quarterback.

The Raiders will need an outstanding defensive performance if they hope to limit Mahomes and despite their previous stifling of the Kansas City offense, there are concerns about how realistic that goal is. Las Vegas' defense has surrendered 377 yards per game this season, which places them in the bottom third of the league.

But Mahomes has made it clear he's not overlooking the Raiders, who are firmly in the playoff hunt at 6-3 and could even make the AFC West title chase a real race with a win on Sunday.

"We'll have to do a better job of [matching their energy] this time and know that we're playing against a good opponent and know that we're going to have to give it our best shot if we're going to come out with a win," Mahomes said.
