The last time the Kansas City Chiefs took the field, they faced the Philadelphia Eagles in Super Bowl LIX, falling 40–22 in New Orleans.

Week 1 of the 2025 NFL season will be their first opportunity since that loss to begin a new journey toward another Lombardi Trophy. And on Saturday, their opening opponent and location appear to have been revealed—just days ahead of the official NFL schedule release.

While all NFL teams already know their home and away opponents, the specific dates, times, and locations remain under wraps. However, with marquee matchups gradually being unveiled, "Front Office Sports" reported that Kansas City will open the season in São Paulo, Brazil. The Chiefs will serve as the road team in a Week 1 matchup against their AFC West rival, the Los Angeles Chargers.

The NFL is reportedly finalizing an agreement with YouTube TV to carry the September 5 game, which will mark the league’s first-ever regular-season matchup in Brazil.

Last year, Brazil faced some criticism over the overall environment for players—ranging from field conditions to restrictions that required all players, coaches, and staff to remain confined to their hotel.

Despite the controversy, the country delivered an impressive turnout for its debut NFL game in 2024. That Friday night season opener featured the Philadelphia Eagles and the Green Bay Packers, with the Eagles emerging victorious in a thrilling contest.

Now, Kansas City is set to take the stage in Brazil for a high-stakes divisional matchup that could have major implications down the line

The Chargers have continued to strengthen their roster following a playoff appearance in Jim Harbaugh’s first season as head coach, setting the stage for what could be a pivotal divisional showdown to start the 2025 campaign.
