Malik Nabers’ brutally honest admission on Giants’ controversial throwback uniforms

Clearly, Nabers is not the biggest fan of the Giants’ new alternate uniforms, as when he was asked how he will make them look good he said, “I don’t know, I’mma see when I put it on.” Luckily, Nabers is not lacking for confidence, as the interviewer said that if anyone could make those uniforms look good, it is him, and he said, “Oh of course, for sure.”

As mentioned before, Giants fans have given mixed reviews for the Century Red uniforms. If Nabers is performing up to the lofty expectations he has as the No. 6 pick from this year’s draft, the team or fans will not care about the uniforms. Expectations are not necessarily high for this year’s Giants, but if they bounce back from a 6-11 season, Nabers will likely be at the center of the team’s success on offense after the departure of Saquon Barkley.

Expectations for Malik Nabers with the Giants

The Giants were rumored to have interest in a quarterback in this draft, and seemingly tried very hard to trade up to get Drake Maye, but were unsuccessful. Michael Penix Jr., JJ McCarthy and Bo Nix went shortly after the Giants’ selection in the first round, and there was a lot of buzz about the Giants potentially being interested in McCarthy. Instead, general manager Joe Schoen passed on quarterback and added Nabers, who he hopes becomes the superstar many believe he can be, and the first 1,000-yard receiver for the Giants since Odell Beckham Jr.

Heading into the 2024 NFL Draft, many believed Nabers was the No. 2 wide receiver behind Marvin Harrison Jr., although there were some who thought Nabers should be the top prospect, according to Charlotte Carroll of The Athletic.

“It’s Nabers, and then there’s a gap,” an NFL offensive assistant coach said, via Bruce Feldman of The Athletic. “He is the best wide receiver in the draft in a couple of years, maybe more. … He is Tyreek Hill combined with both of those San Francisco guys (Deebo Samuel and Brandon Aiyuk). He is so explosive. He has a second gear. He can stop on a dime. He breaks tackles. You can’t jam him because he’s just too quick, and if you miss at all, he’s gonna outrun you.”

Those are some pretty lofty comparisons, but if Nabers lives up to that expectation with the Giants, he will be a fan favorite. There are questions about whether or not Daniel Jones is the long-term answer, but Nabers is likely the most talented receiver that he has had at any point in his career.
