Malik Nabers Shares Injury Update Ahead of Season Opener

New York Giants star Malik Nabers missed some time in training camp and the entire preseason with a toe injury. It sounded precautionary at first, as he was reportedly dealing with the ailment since his final year in college, but the apparent lack of progress was somewhat alarming.

That's why the LSU product wanted to set the record straight and let everybody know that, while he wasn't at 100 percent earlier in the offseason, he fully intends to be out there for the season opener.

Malik Nabers Says he 'Feels Good' Ahead of Season Opener

“I feel good,” Nabers said, per the team's website. “I know it’s been a little ride but right now, I feel good. I feel like I’m always ready. When it’s game time with those lights on, I believe my body is going to turn it on. He’s going to be ready to roll.”

Nabers was the Giants' lone bright spot on offense last season, hauling in 109 receptions for 1,204 receiving yards and seven touchdowns in 15 appearances. Factor in his team's questionable quarterback situation, with Daniel Jones, Drew Lock, and Tommy DeVito, and those numbers are even more impressive.

His toe injury will be a situation to keep a close eye on throughout the course of the season, but he already played through it as a rookie, and it clearly didn't slow him down one bit.

Nabers Says His Connection With Russell Wilson Will Keep Growing

Now, Nabers will catch passes from a former Super Bowl champion, and the expectation is that he will take another leap in his second year in the league.

Unfortunately, he didn't get to have as many reps with Russell Wilson as they would've wanted to, but that doesn't mean they didn't get to do some work together and got to know one another:

"With the spring, I wasn't able to really do those types of things because I was dealing with what I had going on at the time," Nabers admitted. "I still was continuing to get catches after practice with him, seeing what he sees and what he thinks, continue to watch football with him, hearing his thoughts, how he wants things to be run, asking me how I like things to be run I think we've been on the same page a lot."

The situation was far from ideal, but Nabers is optimistic about their chemistry, and he believes it'll come naturally as they continue to work together:

"That connection's going to keep growing. It can never be as great as we want it to be but it's going to be as good as we hope it's going to be, but we continue to still get work, try to get those catches in and out, but the relationship has been going great," the young star added.

Nabers has the potential to be the most dominant pass-catcher in the game this season. Wilson hasn't looked as sharp since leaving the Seattle Seahawks, but he's still not afraid of slinging the football down the field, and this connection could be very special in the Big Apple.
