At first, it seemed that Mark Andrews was headed for a disastrous game. The veteran tight end fumbled after making a catch, allowing Jessie Bates III to return it for a touchdown and put the Ravens in an early hole.
However, Andrews was able to put the mistake behind him and finished with four catches for 28 yards. Those numbers are unimpressive on the surface, but those receptions came at very key moments. Andrews ultimately played a big role in Baltimore’s 30-23 overtime victory.
Despite the early mishap, Tyler Huntley never lost faith in Andrews, continuing to reassure the veteran tight end that he would still be involved.
Those words were not just empty sports jargon to keep Andrews motivated. Andrews caught two passes in overtime, both of which helped extend Baltimore’s game-winning drive. On one, he motioned into the slot before settling underneath for a 10-yard reception that converted third-and-3. Later, Andrews released after initially blocking, caught another short pass and moved the chains again, helping set up a goal-to-go situation that Baltimore eventually turned into a touchdown. The defense sealed the game later with an interception.
Andrews was not the most important or flashy offensive player in this game. Tyler Huntley, Derrick Henry and Justice Hill all played bigger roles in Baltimore’s victory. However, his late-game catches after the fumble helped put the Ravens in position to win and showed his ability to put an early mistake behind him and remain ready when his number was called.
