Why An Eventual Move to Safety Makes Sense

As Humphrey enters his 10th NFL season at 30 years old, he is still one of the most experienced players on the Baltimore Ravens defense and is coming off a 2025 season in which he recorded 54 tackles, four interceptions and 13 pass deflections. 

His versatility will be a key factor in Jesse Minter's defense, but as he gets older and Baltimore centers their defensive secondary around younger players like Nate Wiggins, Humphrey may have to consider the switch to safety to still find playing time.

Moving to safety has helped other players before, like Charles Woodson, Rod Woods and Devin McCourty. Humphrey already has the skills with his size to handle the physical responsibilities and experience of playing in the slot and near the line of scrimmage to help diagnose plays and defend the run.

Instead of relying on his speed to cover younger receivers, Baltimore would be relying on his instincts and ability to create turnovers, which would help in Humphrey extending his playing career in the future when he does make the switch.
