Pros:

  • Athleticism: Mike Green pops for his athleticism. His burst with the first step puts linemen on their heels, and his ability to change direction while keeping his speed is impressive. He's a twitchy athlete.
  • Strength: Green's athleticism is matched by his strength. Linemen aren't able to gear up for one or the other, with Green possessing the ability to win with speed or to power through opposing linemen.
  • Pass rush moves: Green has a ton of moves in his arsenal, from a long-arm to a spin move, to counters to attack the inside shoulder and cross chops to knock down linemen's arms. He has a wide variety of moves to pull from.
  • Pursuit: Green's ability to pursue quarterbacks and ball carriers stands out on film. His athleticism and tenacity allows him to be a constant nuisance that offenses can't shake.

Cons:

  • Competition level: I'm having a legitimately hard time coming up with flaws in Green's profile other than the competition level that he played against, which is going to be the biggest question surrounding him in the draft cycle. If Green played for a Power-4 school and did what he did this year, he'd be a slam dunk for top-15 pick conversations. Green answered the competition level question slightly by logging a sack against Ohio State, and will have a huge opportunity to go good-on-good in Mobile at the Reese's Senior Bowl.

Player Evaluation:

I'm going to be irresponsibly high on Mike Green throughout the draft process. He's a twitched up athlete that has a very polished and developed arsenal of pass rush moves, and his use of his hands is fantastic.

The questions about his competition level are going to be a constant conversation over the months leading up to the 2025 NFL Draft, and it's understandable. However, when talented players play at a smaller school, you want to see them dominate, and that's exactly what he did.

Green's frame, speed, power, production, and pass rush abilities, complemented by his ability against the run, make him one of the most intriguing Edge options in this draft class.

Player Comparison:

Greg Rousseau (Buffalo Bills)

Twitched up, strong, athletic pass rusher with a variety of moves? Look no further than breakout rookie Jared Verse, 2024 first round draft pick by the Los Angeles Rams. From their body type to their play style, I can't help but see the similarities when I watch them play.

A to Z Rankings:
