Looking beyond the Las Vegas Raiders, one of the most noteworthy offseasons in 2025 came from the Pittsburgh Steelers.
With the hopes of getting back to the NFL’s elite, the Steelers made several key moves, most notably signing former Green Bay Packers and New York Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers to replace the duo of Russell Wilson and Justin Fields. Prior to that, however, Pittsburgh made waves by trading first and seventh-round picks to the Seattle Seahawks in exchange for former All-Pro wide receiver DK Metcalf. The Steelers were far from the only team interested in Metcalf, however, with the Las Vegas Raiders and Los Angeles Chargers having connections that made a trade sensible.
A former Raider has even gone so far as to suggest that things could have gone very differently, with Metcalf joining some of his former Seahawks brethren in Las Vegas.
On “The Get Got Pod” with former teammate Michael Robinson, former NFL running back Marshawn Lynch implied that the Raiders were in on the Metcalf sweepstakes.
“[Carroll] tried to bring everybody up out of that building,” Lynch said.
“Remember, DK wanted to go there,” Robinson chimed in.
With head coach Pete Carroll and quarterback Geno Smith creating a strong Seattle contingent with the Raiders, it makes sense why the former Seahawks joined other analysts in suggesting the team make the move to bring in Metcalf. When Robinson added that Metcalf wanted to join the Raiders, he referenced when the receiver made an appearance on the podcast back in March.
“Me and Geno got to Seattle the same year,” said DK. “I used to bounce ideas off of Geno. Geno used to help me my first couple years with DB’s. He was like ‘Oh, you got so-and-so this week. I remember him when he was there, all he does is XYZ’. Me and Geno used to talk to each other about opposing DB’s when he was a backup.”

It is clear that Carroll and Smith played a key role in Metcalf’s development early on, so it is unfortunate that the chemistry between them will not continue in Las Vegas.
