Matt LaFleur addresses Josh Jacobs' future with Packers

With the season opener just around the corner, the Green Bay Packers still don't know much about Josh Jacobs' situation.

The superstar running back was arrested earlier in the offseason, and he's now facing two misdemeanor charges stemming from the alleged incident.

That, plus the fact that he doesn't have more guaranteed money on his contract, prompted speculation about whether he could be released.

According to head coach Matt LaFleur, that won't be the case.

The Packers won't cut ties with Josh Jacobs

"I fully anticipate him being a member of our team," LaFleur said, per ESPN. "You've got to let everything play out. But I anticipate him being a member of our football team."

The Packers have been supportive of the former Las Vegas Raiders standout from the start of the process, though they understandably haven't been able to discuss the situation in detail.

That said, there has been recent speculation about whether the league could suspend him for the season opener. Unsurprisingly, when asked about that, the head coach also pleaded the fifth:

"I can't really comment on that because I don't know," LaFleur said.

Packers general manager Brian Gutekunst was a bit less coy. He acknowledged that the team was considering the possibility that Jacobs wouldn't be on the field in Week 1, though that didn't mean he wouldn't be on the roster.

Even so, the league has yet to announce any discipline, and it's unclear whether a potential suspension would come before Week 1.

It looks like there's a lot the Packers don't know about this situation. What they do know is that Josh Jacobs isn't going anywhere.
