Matt LaFleur after Packers' loss to Giants: 'Would you have slept after last night's performance?'

It was a quintessential Matt LaFleur-era loss for the Green Bay Packers.

The Packers were the better team on paper and looked as such for half of the football game. They went into halftime up 20-10 on the New York Giants and seemed to be halfway toward picking up their fourth win of the season in front of a ton of adoring fans in England.

Unfortunately and almost predictably, Green Bay's offense stalled in the second half of the game. This, despite having back-to-back NFL MVP Aaron Rodgers at the helm of the unit and a backfield due of Aaron Jones and A.J. Dillon that was averaging close to five yards per carry.

As has happened much in the LaFleur era, though, the offense went stale as Rodgers tried to play hero ball, and the play-caller/quarterback combination completely abandoned a running game that was working.

Throw in a defense that's far from the elite unit many predicted it would be — all bark and no bite at this part — and the result was New York basically scoring 17 unanswered in the second half to win the ballgame. Let's not count the two points the Giants gifted to Green Bay via a strategic safety rather than a punt in the shadow of their own goalpost with seconds left on the clock.

The Packers had a long trip back across the pond to Green Bay after the loss, and that trip plus any film review must have taken a toll on the fourth-year head coach. LaFleur apparently looked tired during his Monday press conference. Tired enough, at least, that he was asked if he was able to get any sleep on the way home.

The Packers will now try to get back on track at Lambeau Field against the New York Jets, but what appeared like a sure win for Green Bay before this season started is now undoubtedly a tossup between two 3-2 teams.
