Matt LaFleur confirms season-ending Jayden Reed neck surgery

On Sept.20, Green Bay Packers WR Jayden Reed suffered a scary neck injury against the New York Jets.

On Wednesday, head coach Matt LaFleur officially confirmed that Reed will miss the rest of the season, per Ari Meirov of The 33rd Team. He will undergo neck surgery.

The scary moment came on the second play of the game when he was hit in the crown of his helmet. Afterward, Reed had to be put on a stretcher and carted off the field. He was then taken to the hospital, where he stayed overnight for observation.

Ultimately, Reed moved all his extremities, which was a huge relief. In that same game, right tackle Zach Bako-Bewele had to be carted off the field after sustaining a season-ending knee injury.

In the end, the Packers fended off the Jets 20-17 in overtime for their first win of the season.

Reed has been with the Packers since his career began in 2023. In April, Reed signed a 3-year, $50.25 million contract extension. Ultimately, Reed finished the season with 4 receptions for 24 receiving yards.

Overall, the Packers are saturated with a multitude of injuries. Tight end Micah Parsons is out with a knee injury, but is expected to return in Week 6. DL Jordon Riley is out with an Achilles injury sustained in a game last December.

Last Thursday, the Packers lost to the Atlanta Falcons 35-14. This Sunday, the Packers will play against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers at 12:00 pm CST/1:00 pm EST. Then, they will play the Chicago Bears on Sunday, Oct. 11.
